Flute Music

Flute music is created from a particular woodwind instrument. Some woodwinds are created with reeds. The flute, however, has a reedless design. It produces its sound from the flow of air across an opening.

There are several different instruments from which flute music may be made. These include fipple, end-blown, and side-blown flutes. Most flutes do not fall under these two categories. Generally, the musician will simply blow directly across the mouthpiece's edge.

Fipple flute music, on the other hand, makes use of designs which have a duct that directs air to the edge. The whistle, recorder, and ocarina are just a few examples of this. The western concert flute is an example of the side-blown or "transverse" style.
