Music Albums

Music albums are collection of audio tracks meant for public distribution. Generally, these are commercially distributed. However, there are other means of distribution. For instance, artists may provide them at concerts or through their official sites.

Generally, the tracks available on music albums will be related. Subject, mood, or sound are common similarities. Some may also be designed to tell a specific story or express a particular message. Other albums may be comprised of songs created during a certain time period or songs owned by a particular record label.

Music albums originally resembled photo albums. This is from where that use of the term originated. 18 RPM records were originally presented in such a book-like forms. In fact, the first collection of such records known as an "album" came about in 1909. This was a four-disc set of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite.
