What is an embouchure?
In music-making, this term can refer to two different things. The first is the mouthpiece of a wind instrument. The second is the way in which the player of the instrument shapes his or her lips and facial muscles. The term is French in origin. It makes use of the root "bouche," which means "mouth."
What is the oldest form of musical notation?
A cuneiform tablet from around 2000 BC at Nippur depicts instructions for a musical performance. It was written using a harmonies of thirds and a diatonic scale. Another tablet from 1250 BC shows a more developed form of notation.
